With most of the world’s existing oil fields in a production decline, and many of the rest controlled by foreign governments exhibiting hostile intentions towards the United States, it’s all too clear that we need to stop depending on the availability of imported oil. Recent trends and current studies prove that reliance upon oil from overseas will not only lead to economic stagnation at best, but continuing to send our capital overseas to pay for this oil is sure to create an outright economic collapse.

What are our options?

Well, some say coal and natural gas will serve well to replace the oil that we will no longer have access to, but there are inherent problems with that solution. First of all, coal and natural gas are also limited commodities for the United States and even if they weren’t, using these fossil fuels creates a marked measure of pollutants which does not allow us to reach our goal of creating a cleaner environment. And if the truth be known, natural gas is such a precious commodity, there are far better uses for it than heating buildings, making electricity or powering automobiles.

Many – including GreenSky – believe that nuclear energy can be a part of the energy-shortage solution, but the exorbitant costs and long lead times needed to drive these complicated solutions are too little, too late. Also, the return on nuclear energy investments is small and payback is incalculable with the cost of repairs and spent fuel storage.

What about ethanol? In our opinion, ethanol not only uses far too much energy in its making, it destroys the tilth in our soil, aggravating the soil in such a way that it renders the soil useless for crop reproduction for generations to come. Consider the Fertile Crescent -- a land that once was a bountiful soil feeding many, has virtually turned into a desert wasteland.

Where does that lead us?
