Solar Site Assessment
The first step in building a custom solar heating system is the Solar Site Assessment. A Solar Site Assessment is designed to provide prospective solar energy system owners with site specific information on how renewable energy can meet their needs. For a limited time, we are offering free solar site assessments as offered at the various fairs & shows GreenSky has attended as a vendor this year.
Solar Site Assessment: Start to Finish
Takes 5 hours to accomplish a residential solar site assessment, it includes 2 visits to your home. The first visit is information gathering and generally takes an hour. We then take this information back to our office and design a system just to fit your house. To fit your desire. You have to understand, every solar heating system has to be custom built. We can then arrive at the amount of investment, determine the incentives available to help you pay for this device, figure your savings, and calculate a rate of return.
The rate of return on solar heating equipment will be paying you a lot more than money market rates are paying!
During the second appointment, we have a short presentation. We want you to consider the long-term damage burning fossil fuels is doing to the environment. You must also consider what the cost of energy is going to be in the future. We will then teach you how the system operates, show the installation options, determined incentives, and highlight GreenSky's experience and team members.
The Detailed Steps to a Solar Site Assessment
1st visit
- Testing your site with the solar pathfinder.
- Analyze best placement for solar collectors.
- Placement of the solar storage tank.
- Choose and measure the best routes for piping or ducting.
- Collect annual energy use billing information.
- Ask questions regarding your hot water usage.
- Pictures are taken of every aspect of the site.
- First visit generally takes an hour including the
powerpoint presentation.
We then take all this information and custom design a system to meet your Solar Pathfinder
requirements and present this information in a protective hard cover proposal.
2nd visit
- Presentation about the future costs of energy and the effects your
current heating system has on the environment.
- Renewable energy options.
- Present results of solar site assessment, including
- Current Heating Assessment
- Tips on Saving Energy
- Assessment of Potential Sun Energy
- Hot Water Usage Assessment
- System Options
- System Recommendation
- Investment and Return
- Available Federal Government Incentives
- Available Focus on Energy Cash-Back Rewards
- Available Utility Rebates
- Environmental Savings
- Energy production
- Sun Resource comparisons
- Contracted Price (as opposed to an estimate)
Importance of Investing Now
- Costs of energy has increased steadily for decades.
- For Instance, 40 years ago the cost of gasoline was $.30 cents per gallon, recently the price has been over $4.00 + per gallon.
- The cost of energy to heat your home and water had followed the cost of gasoline upwards.
- What will the cost to heat your home and water be in the future?
- Solar Heating Collector costs are increasing and they are already at the high end of efficiency.
- Lock in your investment today & avoid the high solar collector and fuel costs of tomorrow.
