Please Help
Andy and I have taken on a most difficult task in a start-up business of installing solar heating equipment. We are concentrating mightily on solar only – as opposed to some mechanical contractor that installs 1 or 2 units a year getting lost amongst so many other projects.
There is value in doing the same thing over and over.
My role in this venture has been learning marketing and sales techniques to grab people’s interest, hold it long enough to allow the information to be absorbed, and convert these ideas into action.
Andy’s role has been that of learning the design and installation, including ongoing education.
We have made numerous mistakes normally associated with a start-up business, including purchasing advertising that has resulted in no leads, buying tools that are sparingly used, buying parts that are in inventory and languishing for months before turning them over, and in the beginning, some design misjudgements which had to be reworked.
Mistakes are good; it leads us to a more perfect routine. But now we find ourselves under the gun of keeping our price to the customer low and having to overcome some of these errors in judgment. To break open the residential market; it is imperative the pricing remains low. Money can be made on volume, but we have to have volume!
We are succeeding, and have installed nearly 50 units in the last year – and other than a few minor warranty deals not of our doing - our installations have been nearly without fault.
We are on a roll, and will continue to offer solar heating devices to those who have an understanding of the future with declining fossil fuel supplies, to those with the awareness of how burning these fuels are effecting the environment, and to people who just think it is a good idea.

You should be aware, there are certified site assessors that charge double the fee, but you will not have the engineering necessary to price a unit. One more thing about our site assessment fee; if you do purchase a solar heating system from GreenSky, we will rebate this fee off the price of a solar heating system.
